On May 13 1917 the Blessed Virgin appeared to three shepherd children at Fatima, Portugal — Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta — asking for daily Rosary, penance, and the conversion of Russia. The miracle of the sun on October 13 was witnessed by 70,000 people.
